Managed versus Unmanaged Data
What is Managed Data vs. Unmanaged Data? This topic describes what makes data considered "managed" or "unmanaged" in Spirion Sensitive Data Platform.
- Managed data in Spirion Sensitive Data Platform is sensitive data that has been acted upon in the following ways to lessen or eliminate the risk to your organization:
- Quarantined
- Redacted
- Encrypted
- Shredded
- IgnoreLocation
- Classified
- Script (executed against the data)
- Permissions (Access restricted)
- Additionally, data that has received the following actions is considered Managed data:
- Ignored
- Globally Ignored
- User Action taken on data
- MIP Label applied to data
- Unmanaged data is sensitive data that has been not acted upon (No Action) or else has been acted upon in the following ways:
- Assign - Assign a user to a role
- Notify - Notify assignees of locations (files or emails) via the following:
- Custom Notification Template
- Email Address(es)
- Automated Action

Managed Action Activity Bar Graph
The "Managed Action Activity" bar graph shows the various managed actions (as a percent (%)) performed on sensitive data matches over time (by month).
- Sensitive data matches in this graph have received one of the following managed actions:
- Quarantined, Redacted, Shredded, Classified, Script Executed, Access Restricted
Match Status Bar Graph
The Match Status bar graph shows what percent (%) of scanned content is stored on Managed vs Unmanaged sources over time (by month).
- Managed sources have received one of the following actions:
- Ignore, Quarantine, Redact, Encrypt, Shred, IgnoreLocation, Classify, Script, Permissions, GloballyIgnored, UserAction, MipLabel
- Unmanaged sources have received the following actions:
- No Action, Assign, Notify
Aging Report for Unmanaged Sensitive Data Line Graph
This report shows the age (in days) of all the Unmanaged sensitive data in your environment.
- This data has not been acted upon (quarantined, redacted, restricted, deleted, etc.).
- This data is considered at-risk sensitive data. Spirion strongly recommends you take action on this data as soon as possible.
- Data receiving the actions Assign, or Notify is still considered Unmanaged data.
- Assign is used to assign a user or role, (such as Data Privacy Admin)
- Notify is used to notify assignees of scan results
